This book focuses on the cultural diplomacy of France in Constantinople through the literary study of dispatches, written by Villeneuve de Villeneuve, Marquis de Forcalqueiret, Baron de Saint-Anastaze, French ambassador in 1728-1741. These dispatches were intended for the French Court at the time of the Ottoman Empire, under the reign of Sultan Ahmed III and Sultan Mahmud I during the second quarter of the 18th century. The challenge is to analyze the dispatches, which hold an important place in the history of French diplomacy in the East, to define them as a specific viaticum genre by focusing on Villeneuve.
