Cross Currents grew out of a desire to capture for a wider audience the energy and intellectual insights that are possible when Nigerian Studies and American Studies are in dialogue with each other. A panel discussion organized by the American Studies Association of Nigeria at the University of Ibadan in 2003 planted the idea while the Fulbright Fellowship program, Dartmouth College and the University of Ibadan provided the resources and nourishment.
