Inspired by the story of murdered land rights activist Pompet Meuansri, who left behind an extraordinary legal and personal archive, this book challenges mainstream feminist scholarship by asking, in the manner of postcolonial theorist Gayatri C. Spivak, "can the subaltern write and how can we begin to read their writing?" Focusing on auto/biography and employing women's archives, it develops a framework to engage with Pornpet's life narrative in an effort to reflect more in-depth race and class specificities in postcolonial knowledge and to theoretically advance its theory by highlighting a concept previously overlooked by postcolonial feminists which is called 'colonialism within'.
