Liezel de Jager, senior pastor at the NG Suidkruis church in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, was murdered in the driveway of her home in October 2021. After a successful court case against the Minister of Police and the South African Police Service, Liezel's husband, Werner, was arrested in December 2022 and charged with her murder. Before he could stand trial, he died in hospital under correctional services guard, allegedly from an overdose.
