Taxidermy is a special field of museum expertise that preserves the skin of dead animals and then mount it on an artificial body to appear lifelike as if in its natural habitat. A taxidermist must understand the anatomy of animals, and skillful in the process of skinning, tanning, shaping and sewing of the skin that has been preserved. The purpose of preserving animal specimens is for exhibition, scientific research, education and even for references. Taxidermy works require special license and permission from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) before carrying out any taxidermy work.
