The bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia, commonly acknowledged as saudara serumpun (kinship) states, has been intermittently undermined by the politics of pride and prejudice associated with their clashing nationalisms and national identities. Yet, both governments’ conviction in managing tensions and boosting cooperation suggest power politics rather than nationalistic impetus as the primary driver of their bilateral ties.
